The president opened the June 2012
meeting at 7:15 p.m. by welcoming the guests and the 2 new members. The president extended birthday wishes to our
members celebrating June birthdays.
The minutes of the May 2012 meeting were approved as amended.
The treasurer gave the treasurer’s report advising the guild’s
bank balance is $3081.25.
The vice president advised we have a confirmed date of 11/3/12 for
a weekend of knitting technique classes led by Nancy of Nancy’s Knit Knacks.
The charity chair advised 96 items have been submitted for charity
by 10 members. The chair advised the
American Red Cross seeks caps and scarves in dark colors for veterans. The American Red Cross distributes the donated
items to veterans at the VA hospitals.
Kathy Nelson, Director of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society gave her
thank you to the guild for the donated knitted items the Society distributes to
new parents during new parent classes.
The president confirmed we will sponsor two opportunities to
participate in the World Wide Knit in Public event this year. The guild will meet on Sunday, June 10 at
12:00 p.m. at the Nordstroms Cafe at MacArthur Mall for a WWKIP session. The guild will meet again on June 15 at the
Tide’s baseball stadium to watch a baseball game and knit in public. The cost for the baseball tickets is $11.00
per ticket. Guild members and family
members are welcome.
The president advised the guild seeks volunteers to write articles
about other members or to volunteer to have an article written about them in
the guild’s newsletter. In addition, the
guild seeks articles about book reviews, new knitting techniques and the like
for the newsletter.
Sue Von Ohlsen presented the program with a review of the TKGV
knitting contest results. She advised
the contest items were of superior quality and judging required close attention
to details. The president advised after a
review of comments on the knitting contest, a TKGV knitting contest will take place
in May, 2013, allowing contestants plenty of time to prepare contest entries.
The guild enjoyed the Ways and Means Committee raffle yarns based
on a summer knitting theme.
The president advised the guild will sponsor a knitting retreat at
the Outer Banks the weekend of March 8 to March 10, 2013. The guild has secured room rates of $68.00/night
at the Hampton Inn in Corolla. The president
seeks volunteers to help set up the weekend event.
The July program will be the annual summer yarn sale and an “Ask the
Expert” session.
The guild enjoyed the show and share time.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:45
p.m.
