November 1, 2010 Minutes

The President called the November 2010 meeting to order at 7:18 p.m. The president welcomed the guests. The minutes of the October 2010 meeting were approved. The treasurer’s report was received.


Maureen Cahill, Chair of the Nominating Committee, installed the newly elected officers:
Allison Hunt, President
Trink Dahl-Prince, Vice President
Kathy Brown, Treasurer
Katie Gerwien, Secretary.

Committee reports were received with the following updates:

1. letter from Ruby Roberts, out-of-state member

2. name the newsletter contest through January, 2011- submit ideas via email

3. request from President for volunteers for the New Member Committee

4. request from Vice President for volunteers to help plan the Sally Melville classes on 10/22 and 10/23/11.


The guild approved a motion to hold a voluntary Pollyanna gift exchange at the December meeting. All gifts will be wrapped, knitting related and the value is not to exceed $15.00.


The guild will provide beverages and paper products for the voluntary December pot luck party. The members with last names starting with A through L will bring appetizers. The members with last names starting with M through Z will bring desserts.



The guild was updated on the meeting location survey. Fifty members have answered the survey with 70% of the members favoring Westminster-Canterbury for the meeting location. The president will advise at the December meeting if we will change meeting locations.



The Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival will take place May 7 and May 8, 2011. Cornerstone Alpaca Farm is conducting a fiber arts celebration the weekend of November 6 and 7, 2010.


Sue Von Ohlsen, owner of The Knitting Corner, presented Trink Dahl-Prince with the beautiful afghan Trink won in the shop’s recent fundraiser, The Stitch To Win Against Breast Cancer. Trink advised she will give the beautiful afghan to a friend who is being treated for breast cancer.


We held the raffle, enjoyed the program by Lora Marin on “What’s in my closet?” and completed the member show and tell.


The meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
