TKGV Minutes – July 2010

Meeting called to Order by: Pam St Clair
Time: 7:21

President's Comments: Everyone was welcomed. We have 4 Guests today. One Guest heard about us on Ravelry. Another 3 from WWKIP day. Awesome! July Birthdays were recognized.

What did the President do this month? Lots of knitting. Was knitting in front of a fire while in Michigan. Knitting and eating Smores.

Minutes of the June meeting were posted to the TKGV blog and accepted as presented.

Treasurer's Report – taken from the June Newsletter
    * General Fund: $3,448.64
    * Charity Fund: $97.83
    * Grand Total: $3546.27
Treasurer's Report was accepted as presented.

Committee Reports:

Programs: Trink Dahl-Prince

* July – Yarn Sale – Tonight's program will feature items from member stashes to trade or sell – get ready to check out some great stuff from everyone's stash!!
* August – Charity Knitting. The Program will be more in depth information about St Mary’s. Many Guild members help to support St Mary's and create and donate wonderful knitted items to the folks at St Mary's. We will also discuss other Charity Projects and ideas.
* September - Yarn Sale Deux – We'll be back again with more from the stash!! Just in case you have a change of heart and want to dive deeper into your stash – or perhaps you will have a “Stash Intervention” …. now you can bring more to trade or sell!!
* October – We are looking for a program ideas for October. Please let us know your thoughts at the August meeting.
* November - Election of Officers
* December - Holiday Party

Charity Projects: Jackie Scott.
Jackie makes sure the Sign-up sheets for Charity knitting are always near the Sign-In sheets. Please make sure to continue to log your charity knit items.
Lee, our “vacation member” from New Jersey has been busy knitting socks for Charity and logging the knitting with Jackie. Lee's goal is 12 pair and she is up to pair 11!

Charity Log Sheet: Debbie Henderson
Debbie is continuing to take the log and tally the point count.

Welfare and Calling Tree: Karen Richardson: No updates.

Community Events: Linda Johnson.
* Chesapeake Heritage Days has been cancelled this year for lack of funding. There are no other Community Events scheduled at this time.
* We received great press for WWKIP Day!

Newsletter and Publicity: Sonia Barisic.
Newsletter is online. Another BEAUTIFUL Newsletter!! Thank you Sonia. On the website, there is also a link to the newsletter archive.

Ways and Means: Angie Harris, Eleanor Cavin and Cheryl Cauthen-Bond.
The Ways and Means committee requested additional funding to purchase yarns for the next 3 months of raffle prizes.
A call was made to buy raffle tickets... Ways and Means brought more nice yarns from the Yarn Basket this month.

New Membership Committee: Angie Harris.
** STRONG work Angie!! Three **NEW** Members, One **Returning** member and One Visitor!!

Old Business:
1. WWKIP – It was a GREAT day!! Thank you to the team who organized the event!
Everyone received a Knitting bag with lots of goodies inside. Knit Wits and The Knitting Corner were there as was Cornerstone Farm.

2. Any interest in going back to Westminster Canterbury? Some members have expressed an interest. The view is great and the chairs are all set up. Carolyn Cox volunteered to talk to one of the residents about sponsorship and get information about who to contact for details. Thank you Carolyn.

3. Cheryl Cauthen-Bond spent personal funds to buy the Knitting Bags and the Pins for WWKIP day. A motion was made to repay Cheryl for the purchased items which were given to each WWKIP participant. The motion was seconded and passed.

New Business:
Knitting Needles were given to the Guild from Westminster Canterbury. Members were asked to think about what the Guild should do with the needles. Suggestions:
  1. Cancer Support Groups – provide a diversion while undergoing treatment
  2. Give to Knitting Teachers – to help children or parents as children learn to knit.
  3. Send to Romania or other countries in need – to help children or parents as children learn to knit

* Anyone with ideas for the Historical Knitting section of the newsletter or just some knitting history they would like researched, please call Karen and let her know. Karen enjoys doing the research and writing the articles.

Raffle: Lucky raffle winners picked from a variety of yarns from The Yarn Basket.

July Program: Yarn Sale
Lots of great yarns from the Stash and some books and other goodies were available!!

Show and Tell: Members showed many knitted garments and works in progress.

Next Meeting Date: August 2, 2010

Meeting Adjourned Time: 8:15 pm so Guild Members had plenty of time to shop the Yarn Sale.

TKGV AUGUST MEETING

The August Meeting of TKGV will be held Aug. 2nd, 2010 at the Colonial Education Center, The Lynnhaven House on Wishart Road in Virginia Beach.  The program will focus on Charity Knitting.
