The president opened the February 2012 meeting at 7:18 p.m. The president extended birthday wishes to those members who celebrate their birthday in February. In addition, the president welcomed Millie Kirby, a charter member of the guild.
The president advised the board decided to not pro-rate dues for members joining the guild in the middle of the year.
Amy Hudson will chair the newcomers team. Amy advised the guild will give all visitors one free raffle ticket.
The minutes of the January 2012 meeting were approved pending correction.
The president reviewed the proposed 2012 budget. The guild voted unanimously to accept the 2012 proposed budget.
Lora Marin will serve as the guild’s parliamentarian.
Chris Goudeau, Charity chair, presented a list of charities the guild can consider for charity knitting donations. The guild’s charity knit in will take place on Sat. 2/11/12. Please contact the president if you want to attend the 2/11/12 charity knit in.
The president advised the board decided the Ways and Means Committee raffles will be self-sustaining. The committee will use the funds raised from the raffle tickets sales to obtain items for the next raffle.
Sue Von Olsen advised The Knitting Corner is offering a lot of classes in March and April. In addition, the store is receiving new yarns for spring and yarns for scarves.
The president advised the guild will participate in the Virginia Beach Spring Craft Festival held 3/16 – 3/18/12 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. The guild needs volunteers to man the guild’s booth. All volunteers who commit to serving at the craft fair by 3/5/12 will receive free admission to the craft fair.
The president advised the guild will participate in the Gathering of the Guilds at the Frances Land House, Virginia Beach, on 4/7/12. The guild will seek volunteers to man the guild’s table at this event at the March meeting.
The president advised the guild will hold a judged knitting contest. All entries will be due by 5/12/12. The winners will be announced at the June meeting. The contest rules will be presented at the March meeting and will be posted in the March newsletter. In addition, the president advised the guild will recognize guild volunteers at the October meeting.
The president advised the guild’s World Wide Knit in Public Day will occur on 6/9/12. The WWKIP chair is researching venues for this event.
Sue Von Olsen presented the program on how to use the color wheel to make color choices for projects. The March program will be “Yoga for Knitters”. Marilyn Estrada will present the program and recommends the attendees wear loose and comfortable clothes for the program.
The guild enjoyed the Ways and Means raffle of yarns suitable for Valentine’s Day projects.

President-elect, Debbie Henderson, opened the January 2012 meeting at 7:18 p.m. On motion of Ray Struebing, seconded, the guild approved installing the 2012 TKGV board as elected at the December 2011 TKGV meeting.
The president, Debbie Henderson, welcomed our guests, extended birthday wishes to our members celebrating January birthdays and asked all members to wear their name tag. In addition, if a member does not wear their name tag to a meeting, the member will owe $.25 to the name tag basket.
On motion of Lora Marin, seconded, the guild approved the December 2011 minutes.
Lora Morin asked all guild members to join TKGV via Facebook as it is an efficient method of communication with guild members.

The Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival will take place the weekend of May 5, 2012. The Chesapeake Water Heritage Festival will take place October 13 – 14, 2012.

The Yarn Club will have the new Jean Frost book and samples and a fitting event January 14, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.
The guild will attend an Admiral’s hockey game on Saturday, 2/18/12. We will sit together. Family and friends are invited. Please bring money for the tickets ($14.00 per ticket) to the February meeting.

December 5, 2011 Guild Meeting Minutes
The TKGV president called the December 2011 meeting to order at 7:22 p.m. by welcoming our guests and extending birthday wishes to our members and guests celebrating their birthdays in December.
The secretary noted the guild experienced the first known marriage of 2 TKGV guild members: Kimberly Reynolds to Christopher Villareal on 11/11/11. The entire TKGV membership gives its congratulations and wishes for great happiness to Mr. and Mrs. Villareal.
The president introduced the slate of candidates for the 2012 TKGV board: Debbie Henderson, President; Lora Marin, Vice President; Katie Gerwien, Secretary. Bev Boler is nominated for Treasurer but was not present for the December meeting. By acclamation, the guild approved the above slate for the 2012 TKGV Board of Directors.
By acclamation, the minutes of the November, 2011 meeting were approved.
The president reported the Treasury had a balance of $2,533.00 in the general fund and $54.00 in the charity fund, as of the printing of the most recent newsletter.
The president advised TKGV is celebrating it 20th anniversary. No charter members were present at this meeting. Ruth Coleman, Jackie Scott and Cheryl Cauthen-Bond were recognized for their long term membership and participation in TKGV. A thank you was extended to Trink Dahl-Prince for organizing the Sally Melville classes, as well as a thank you was extended to all past board members for their service to the guild.
The charity hat contest was held resulting in Wanda Gunnoe winning all 4 categories of the contest, again the first known winner of all 4 categories. Wanda won for best technical merit, most original, best in show and highest number of hats knitted. In all, 91 hats were donated to various charities as a result of this contest.
The guild enjoyed the Christmas Pollyanna gift exchange and show-and-tell of current projects.
After a brief discussion, the guild confirmed the January 2012 meeting will occur on Monday, January 2, 2012 at the regular time and location.

November 7, 2011 Meeting Minutes
The TKGV president called the November 2011 meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. by welcoming our guests and extending birthday wishes to our members and guests celebrating their birthdays in November.
Katie Gerwien presented the program regarding what she learned at The Knitting Guild of America’s convention.
By acclamation, the minutes of the September and October, 2011 meetings were approved.
We received the treasurer’s report. The general fund has a balance of $2675.92, and the charity fund has a balance of $534.60. The treasurer confirmed we have some outstanding bills. By acclamation, the guild approved purchasing a $480.00 knitting basket gift through Heifer International.
Debbie Henderson reminded the guild of the hat and slipper contest which will occur at the December 2011 meeting. Awards will be given for the Best in Show, Best Technical Merit, Most Unique and the highest number of contributions by one member. Debbie suggested members bring purchased hats if they don’t have time to knit hats. All of the hats and slippers generated for the contest will be donated to charity.
Trink Dahl-Prince presented the nominating committee’s slate of candidates for the 2012 board: Debbie Henderson, President; Lora Marin, Vice President; Bev Boler, Treasurer; and Katie Gerwien, Secretary. The guild will vote on the board positions at the December 2011 meeting.
The guild approved having a Pollyanna gift exchange at the December 2011 meeting. The Pollyanna gift exchange is voluntary with the gifts being limited to $15.00 in value and knitting related. In addition, the guild will provide light desserts at the December 2011 meeting.

October 3, 2011 TKGV Meeting Minutes

The president gave each attendee a copy of the by-laws and explained the by-laws require a nominating committee to select the 2012 TKGV board candidates. Trink Dahl-Prince, Melanie Perez-Lopez and Sonja Barisic will compromise the TKGV nominating committee for selecting the candidates for the 2012 TKGV board. The nominating committee will report at the November TKGV meeting.
On motion of Rae Struebing, seconded, TKGV members approved offering 2 scholarships to current TKGV members to attend each of the 4 TKGV sponsored Sally Melville classes.
Rae Struebing accepted a friendly amendment from Debbie Henderson to the above motion; the treasurer will review the requests for scholarships and will limit scholarships to no more than 2 classes per applicant, based on the total number of scholarship requests.
We received the treasurer’s report. The general fund has a balance of $3884.98, and the charity fund has a balance of $458.66, with both balances calculated prior to the October meeting.

Guild members are invited to participate in the event. Please bring a portable chair. We will focus on knitting for charity. Debbie will have patterns and yarns. Please bring 16” # 8, 9 & 10 needles to work on hats. In addition, Debbie will raffle gifts to those members who attend the event.
The guild celebrated the guild’s 19th anniversary.
Trink Dahl-Prince reviewed the Sally Melville classes and solicited assistance for transporting Sally during the weekend of her visit.
Following the member show and tell of current projects, the Ways and Means Committee conducted the raffle. The items in the raffle were from The Knitting Corner.
