June 3, 2013 TKGV Guild Meeting Minutes

The president opened the June 2013 meeting at 7:18 p.m. and extended birthday greetings for TKGV members celebrating June birthdays.  The president welcomed our guests and new member.

The May 2013 meeting minutes were approved.

The treasurer reported the guild’s balance as of this meeting is 4,448.48

The vice president announced Nancy Shroyer will teach classes the first weekend of November, 2013, with further news to come regarding class times, class costs and subject matter.  Based on feedback from the guild, we will pursue classes in Fair Isle knitting, intarsia and 2 hand knitting.

The charity chair advised there was yarn available for charity knitting.  The president advised the guild we will record knitted and crochet items for charity only as the charity scoring system is appropriate for knitted and crocheted items.

The newsletter chair advised members to check their spam mail if they are not receiving the guild newsletter via email. 


Yarn Shop News:

Baa Baa Sheep:  is participating in the Virginia Yarn Club program this summer.  Please contact the shop for more details.  The shop is sponsoring a shawl contest in August, 2013.  Shop customers will vote on the best shawls on display in the shop.  The top 3 winners will receive gift certificates to the shop. 

The Knitting Corner:  is available for sale.  Please contact the owner directly if interested. 
The shop is offering basic classes in knitting a shell, introduction to lace, knitting hats and knitting socks.    

The Yarn Club:  On 6/15, The Yarn Club will host a Knit in Public event at the Virginia Beach Town Center.  Please contact the shop for further details.  The shop has a class schedule that includes learning to spin, knitting socks in 2 colors and with the magic loop method.  The shop continues to receive new yarns. 

Sue Von Ohlsen led the program by demonstrating how to apply piano fringe to knitted items. 

The Ways and Means committee conducted the raffle of various donated items.  The guild has nice drawstring bags available for sale at $20.00.  The bags are perfect for the beach, for carrying knitting projects and for visiting fiber festivals!

The TKGV KIP and LYS Scavenger Hunt winners were announced with Denise Call winning first place, Cheryl Cauthen-Bond winning 2nd place and Linda Johnson winning third place.  The Knitting Corner held a raffle for all Scavenger Hunt participants who visited The Knitting Corner.  

The guild enjoyed the show and tell. 

The July meeting program will be on yarn storage, and the guild will hold the semi-annual yarn sale.  Guild members only may sell yarn and other knitting related items.  

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
