TKGV MEETING FEBRUARY 1, 2010 has been CANCELLED due to inclement weather and road and parking lot issues. The city has closed/cancelled all city building business. That means guild too, as Lynnhaven House is part of the city system. Rescheduling meeting will depend on Lynnhaven House schedule.

TKGV Minutes January 4, 2010

Meeting call to Order Called by President Pam St Clair at 7:30

President's Comments: Everyone was welcomed. Glad to see everyone came out in the cold and hope there is lots of yarn to sell. One new member was welcomed - Julia Poussiant – Julia was a guest last month and joined. Birthday wishes were made to all January birthdays.

Minutes of prior month posted on the TKGV website for members to read. Copies were also available at the meeting. Minutes were accepted as presented.

Treasurer's Report by Lisa Roberts:
- General Fund: 2937.02
- Charity Fund: 97.83
- Education Fund: 289.14
- Grand Total: 3323.99

Heiffer Fund Update by Lisa Roberts: The TKGV sent a Knitting Basket. All remaining funds were added to the new Heiffer Fund for 2010.

Committee Reports:

Programs: Trink Dahl Prince. Lots of Ideas presented such as:
o Class on Recycling yarn – Jean Mills and Trink Dahl-Prince will lead in February
o Basic Intro to Cables – Kate Gerwin and Carolyn Cox will lead in March
o Knitting Wizard – Linda Johnson, Peggie Meyer in April
o Finishing Class – Pam St Clair, Jackie Scott, Wanda Gunnoe, Eleanor Cavin will set up stations for various Finishing Tips in May
- Other suggestions:
o Knitting getaway in Sandbridge or Outer Banks
o TKGV Guild Knit-a long
o Trip to local Alpaca Farms
o Learn to spin class – Joanne Fischer was asked
o Yarn crawl to Richmond via Williamsburg
o Trip to St Mary's to learn how we can be most helpful with knitting or volunteering
o Speakers
o Wendy Johnson is booked for spring; Clara Parkes is scheduling for 2011; Natalie Wilson not yet contacted
o Member suggestion to look for a date in the Fall of 2010 and plan now for Spring 2011

Charity Projects: Jackie Scott.
o In 2009 the TKGV members created and donated a total of 176 items. Members may not be reporting all charity knitting as this number is down from prior years.
o For 2010, Members were asked if the Guild wants to continue to fund a prize.
o Motion: Jackie Scott made a motion to fund Prize budget of $100 for 3 prizes - Grand Prize $50 for the most prolific knitter and $25 each for the second and third place knitters in terms of points.
o Motion Seconded by Lisa Roberts and Motion passed by membership.
o Award counting is done on a point system. Jackie will report in February on the point system and Sonia will publish the point system in the newsletter.
o Charity Knit-In – Member get-together to spend a day creating knitted items for charity.
o Carolyn Cox will host sometime in February – the date will be announced in the Newsletter and at the February meeting.
o Other Charity ideas for 2010: Last year TKGV supported Caps for Kids, Pet Blankets, St Mary's and the Military with Helmet Liners.
o Members discussed and agreed to continue with St Mary's, Caps for Kids, Samaritan House, Volunteers of America (VOA) or NEST (Homeless).
o Suggestion to do VOA in Winter (Jan to April) St Mary's over summer (May to Sept) and Caps for Kids in the Fall.
o Homeless need caps, mittens, scarves, warm things.
o St Mary's can use lap blankets, socks, caps, scarves.
o Pet Blankets, Helmet Liners and scarves for Military needed all year.
o Citizen Sam has patterns, colors, sizes, etc for Military knitting
o Charity Log Sheet – Debbie Henderson will continue to log items.

Welfare and Calling Tree: Volunteers needed to organize a calling tree.
o Pam St Clair asked for a member to volunteer to lead a Welfare and Calling Tree.

Community Events: Linda Johnson. No Updates

Newsletter and Publicity: Sonia Barisic needs any information for the newsletter by the 15th of the month in order for the information to be included in the newsletter.
o Sonia would like road or trip reports, book reports.
o Currently “Snail” Mailing Newsletters to 24 people. An updated membership list will be available for February which may shorten the list of people who need to receive a copy via posted mail.

Ways and Means: Angie, Eleanor Cavin and Cheryl Cauthen-Bond.
o Tote bags available for $20.

New Membership Committee: Anji Harris agreed to lead the New Membership Committee.

Web Committee: Joanne Fisher, Lara Marin and Andrea Riddle. Not present; no updates.

Old Business:
MD Sheep and Wool:
o Price for a seat on the bus is $45 until April. After April 1, the price goes up to $55. Members interested in going to MD Sheep and Wool with TKGV asked to fill in the forms available at the meeting and send in the money in order to confirm the reservation.

Member recruitment
o TKGV membership asked to bring a friend to meetings and join the Guild!


New Business:
No New Business. Charity Knitting, Program Ideas were covered under Old Business

Program:
Yarn Yard Sale. Members brought yarns from their stash to offer the opportunity for other members to make stash enhancements.

Raffle:
3 members won yarn “kits” which included suggested patterns.

Show and Tell:
Members presented their knitted items and works in process.

TKGV Minutes - December 7, 2009

Meeting called to Order by Pam St Clair at 7:30 pm

President's Comments:   Everyone welcomed; Birthdays noted; 1 Guest present.  Pam added many knitting related items to the TKGV Website, such as links to blogs, links to sites that show lots of pictures of knitting or luscious yarn.

Minutes of the November meeting posted to the Main Page of the Website.  Minutes will continue to be posted to the Main Page until there is a Members Only area.  Several additional printed copies were on hand for members who do not have access to the Website.  Minutes of the November meeting accepted as presented.

Treasurer's Report by Lisa Roberts:
- General Fund: $3372.79
- Charity Fund:  $441.29
- Education Fund: $289.14
Grand Total:  $4103.22

Committee Reports:

- Programs - Trink Dahl Prince.  January Program is the Annual Yarn Sale.  Suggestions for following months:  How to use recycled yarn, speakers such as Clara Parkes, Natalie Wilson, Wendy Johnson or guest from a local Alpaca Farm,  a “knit-in” or retreat in Sandbridge.  Trink will contact each of the suggested speakers to find out next steps to schedule and cost.

- Charity Projects - Jackie Scott.  Jackie displayed a large selection of Hats for “Caps for Kids”. Hats were on hand for voting in several categories. Members were asked to cast their votes and the winners were announced later during the Main Program.

- Charity Log Sheet – Debbie Henderson will continue to log items.

- Welfare and Calling Tree – Membership asked for volunteers to organize a calling tree.

- Community Events - Linda Johnson.  Linda will continue to research and help to organize event schedules, but may not be able to do all the events.  Suggestion made to list the events with the Pilot Online Calendar.

- Newsletter and Publicity - Sonja Barisic volunteered to list the events with Pilot Online and in the Newsletters.  Sonja asked members to send items for inclusion in the newsletter such as patterns or Road Trip “Yarn Reports” from members who visit a yarn shop while traveling.

- Ways and Means – Angie Harris, Elenor Cavin and Cheryl Cauthen-Bond.  Treasurer will provide a check for Ways and Means at December meeting.

- New Membership Committee - New Membership Committee needed. Membership asked for volunteers.

- Website Committee - Joanne Fisher, Lara Marin and Andrea Riddle.  Joanne added to the Ravelry TKGV Group seeking suggestions for TKGV Website.  Next steps are to collect requirements and hold a meeting to determine how to fulfill the requirements.

Old Business:

- Heffer Fund - $59 was needed to get the Heffer fund to goal of $500 for a “Knitting Basket”.  Members asked to consider this shortfall as the donation bucket was passed.

- Knitting Corner Afghan Project for the Susan G Korman Foundation:  Outstanding response from membership - enough squares were knit to make 3 Afghans and approx $3500 was raised.

- MD Sheep and Wool – May 1 & 2, 2010.  Cost for 42 Seat Hound Dog Bus:  $1500
Motion raised to go to Maryland Sheep and Wool by Lisa Roberts and seconded by Dona Poole.  Motion passed.

New Business:

- Members only section on Website:  General agreement by membership that a Members Only section is needed on the Website to post items like the Meeting Minutes and the Newsletter.  This requirement will be added to the agenda for the Web Committee.

- New Programs:  Members were asked to contact Trink for suggestions on additional program ideas.

- Charity Projects:  Dona  Poole and Lisa Roberts volunteered to co-Chair Charity projects. Dona and Lisa appealed to membership to provide suggestions for TKGV Group Projects for 2010. Dona and Lisa will take suggestions at the January meeting. Many thanks to Jackie Scott for her contributions as outgoing Chair of the Charity Projects Committee.

- Debbie Henderson made an appeal for Helmet Liners.  Helmet Liners are always needed and much appreciated by Men and Women in the Service going to Afghanistan.

- WW Knit in Public Day June 12 and 13, 2010:  Cheryl Cauthen-Bond suggested the D'Art Center in Norfolk.  Carolyn Cox offered to help.  Cheryl and Carolyn will get the specifics about utilizing the D'Art center for WWKIP and report at the January meeting.

- TKGV Group KAL:  Lisa Roberts suggested the Guild should do a group Knit-A-Long

- Raffle:  3 Items were raffled.

Program:

- Polyanna Gift Exchange.  Members who participated called randomly by numbers on Raffle tickets to choose and enjoy their Gift.

- Member Show and tell.  While voting for Caps for Kids and opening Gifts, members also presented their knitted items and works in process for Show and Tell.

- Caps for Kids Winners:
Technical Merit:  Jackie Scott
Most creative and Best in Show:  Chris Goudeau
Most Admissions:  28 - Wanda Gunnoe

- Heffer Fund Donation Basket was passed and members surpassed the $59 needed to get to $500 “Knitting Basket” gift for the 2009 TKGV donation. Excess funds will be donated to the 2010 Donation Basket.

- Next meeting is January 4, 2010.  Meeting Adjourned at 9:00.
